金属製錬や無機材料合成プロセスの物理化学、地球環境問題に関わる新プロセスの物理化学に関する研究を行っている。鉄やシリコン基合金等の金属や溶融酸化物の熱力学的性質や物性を明らかにすることにより、次世代マテリアルプロセスの基盤作りを目的としている。 　特に、廃棄物処理や高付加価値化のための基礎研究をはじめ、マイクロ波プロセッシングによる小規模実証試験など、環境調和のための広領域な研究を行っている。
