Research

Hydrogels are water-filled materials which have similar composition with that of living body. Owing to the similarity, hydrogels are promising candidates for biomaterials. Hydrogels are, however, immature as materials, because controls over structure and physical properties are generally difficult. We have, for the first time, developed a novel hydrogel system with controlled structure and properties, called Tetra-PEG gel. Using Tetra-PEG gel system, we design and fabricate hydrogels with precisely controlled network structures, and attempt to develop novel hydrogels for biomedical application. Recently, we are designing the full life cycle of hydrogels in vivo, including not only function, but also installation and final destination for developing ideal biomaterials.
